Challenge #1 - Not paying 50% upfront...
Hello! Wanna see me struggle? Read this!
I’m thrilled to share my very first behind-the-scenes newsletter with you, giving you a peek into the journey of building Nomad Nexus and my upcoming retreat in Lombok. This venture has been all about solving my own problem – the challenge of finding a community of like-minded, ambitious digital nomads and entrepreneurs.
The biggest hurdle so far? Accommodation. It’s been quite the adventure! (It still is)
I started by creating a landing page and paid way too much for a Figma design (which is on the way, coming soon!). Securing a suitable place for us to stay has been the toughest part. My friend Fynn and I (check out the picture of us below!) have been on a mission to find the perfect spot.

Everywhere we look, we hit the same roadblock – everyone wants 50% full prepayment immediately. Booking.com offers a much better cancellation policy, though it’s a bit more expensive. It’s a risky choice, and I’m still weighing the options.
I thought, the criteria were quite simple:
More or less private ( that’s why I didn’t wanna book a “normal” hotel, I want a cozy atmosphere to connect!)
Breakfast included
Approximately under 6000€ for 14 days
Good Internet and a working space (already thought of just buying a starlink, just in case)
not in the jungle 50km from everything
I got a promising lead from an inspiring friend, Michelle. The hotel looked perfect at first glance, but they wanted an outrageous price (even more than booking.com!) and insisted on a 50% prepayment. Navigating this new industry has been challenging, and I’m still figuring out how it all works.
So maybe the criteria are not as simple as I imagined. Well, let’s see.
How many days did it take to book an accommodation?Reveal in the next newsletter TOMORROW |
My head is full, and my top priority now is to secure accommodation so I can confirm this retreat is happening and start selling tickets.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being a part of this journey. Your support means the world to me as we build Nomad Nexus together.
Until next time, (and again thank you for reading this far!)
Danny.
Feel free to reach out with any thoughts or suggestions. I’d love to hear from you!
